Police are on the hunt for thieves who targeted two jewellery stores in regional NSW and allegedly drove a stolen car through the front of a popular shopping centre.
About 6:30am Sunday police were called to Orana Mall in Dubbo after a ram raid was reported.
A front entrance to the mall, located on the Mitchell Highway, was extensively damaged after a vehicle forced entry into the building.
Inside the mall, the Angus and Coote Jewellery shop was targeted by two thieves who got out of the car while a third person driving remained inside, a police spokesperson initially said.
The spokesperson said the trio did a U-turn after taking several items from the shop and exited through the door they came in through.
On Monday police confirmed a Kia Sportage, believed to have been stolen, was the car used to drive into the mall.
A spokesperson said two men were seen in the vehicle on Saturday night about 11pm in Orange, robbing the Angus and Coote jewellery store on Summer Street.
It’s believed the men drove to Dubbo in the early hours of Sunday morning before they target the Angus and Coote store in Orana Mall.
About 11.30am Sunday police found the Kia Sportage at a home on Elizabeth Street in Wellington.
The vehicle has been seized and is being forensically examined.
