A hullabaloo erupted in the foyer of Dubbo Local Court when a woman allegedly spat on a sheriff’s officer when she was accused of filming with her mobile phone.
Orana Mid-Western Police District officers were called to Dubbo courthouse just after 10.30am on Thursday, following reports a woman allegedly spat on a sheriff’s officer when he confronted her about using her phone to film inside the building.
It is an offence to take photographs or use audio/video recording devices in courtrooms and inside court premises under the Court Security Act 2005.
Loud shouting could be heard following the fiery confrontation.
On arrival, police arrested the 23-year-old woman and seized her mobile phone.
She was later released, but not before being slapped with an infringement notice for allegedly behaving in an offensive manner in a public place.
An 18-year-old woman, who also allegedly became involved in the brouhaha, was also spoken to before being given a move-on direction to leave the area.
Inquiries are continuing.
