A Central West town has received a “major boost” towards public transport with more than 100 new bus line services commencing next month.
Dubbo bus passengers will benefit from an 87 per cent increase in timetabled hours, including 112 more services between West Dubbo and Orana Mall to run every 30 minutes on weekdays – connecting Delroy Park Shopping Centre, Dubbo’s CBD, Dubbo Station, Dubbo Base Hospital, TAFE and other key locations – from October 16.
There will also be a new connection between Taronga Western Plains Zoo and Orana Mall via the Dubbo CBD, Western Plains Cultural Centre and Dubbo Showground.
Keswick, Southlakes, Grangewood and Delroy Park will also be connected.
Regular bus routes will also provide new links to Bunnings, Dubbo Sports World and the North Dubbo industrial area.
Dubbo resident and Orana Residents of Indian Sub-Continental Heritage (ORISCON) treasurer Vicky Kumar said the additional bus lines were “great for the migrant community”.
“The bus lines are a very good investment and will really help people, especially the migrant community – it’s a great opportunity for everyone to connect with people, go to places and enjoy the bus services,” Mr Kumar said.
Regional Transport and Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison said public transport was the “social determinant of health, education, opportunity and jobs”.
“These improvements to the Dubbo bus network will make a real difference and help more people get where they need to go at times that are more convenient for them,” Ms Aitchison said.
“I really want to be growing these services and we’re hoping that we’ll get some quick uptake, but obviously we’re here for the long haul.”
Bus trips from Narromine, Geurie and Wellington will stop at ALDI and Dubbo Station.
The increased bus services are delivered by Transport for NSW in conjunction with Dubbo Bus Lines, Ogden’s Coaches and Dubbo Regional Council.
