From first time directors to film makers with decades of experience, regional creatives will showcase their projects at Dubbo’s annual One Eye Film Festival later this month.
The festival will showcase various short films from a range of genres, including music videos, documentary style edits, student films and more, to reveal the talent of regional creatives.
The event, presented by Dubbo Filmmakers, will be held at the Dubbo RSL Memorial Club on Saturday, November 25, curated by Regional Arts NSW chief executive Tracey Callinan.
Director Erifili Davis’s gothic drama Félice, tells the story of a young Parisian woman who aspires to be an artist’s model and is given a risky opportunity from a mysterious stranger set in the 1920s.
Ms Davis told The Dubbo News she was inspired with the concept after her husband watched a documentary about Vincent Van Gogh and his relationships.
“What if an artist had a muse, like artists had in those days, but the artist was not quite human?” Ms Davis asked.
Working with local actors Kalina Davis and Milla Ross, Ms Davis said the trio have worked together numerous times before and collaborate well.
“This is the first time I’ve shot the film myself, I usually write, direct or produce but I decided to shoot this time,” she said.
“It’s fantastic to have so many local creatives that you can work with to make your vision come to life.”
Actor and director Kalina will be screening her first self-directed film Hidden Prey, telling the story of a group of friends having a sleepover while the town experiences a turn of events as the night unfolds.
“I’ve always been into writing and trying different things when it comes to artistic projects – the one thing I haven’t done was write a script,” Kalina said.
“I wanted my first tester to be a classic slasher and not anything too complicated or anything too hard to produce.”
“It’s definitely safe to say that I’ve found a new passion and something that I want to venture more into – I’m already working on other projects because I want to get back into it so bad.
“I think it helps having an amazing group of people to do that with.
“I wanted to let people try new things while I’m trying new things, so if someone wanted to have a go at the boom stick then they could.”
