Dubbo: Horizons Retirement Village proposes additional 32 units to the Minore Rd facility

An additional 32 independent living units have been proposed at Horizons Retirement Village in Dubbo.

Elderly people in Dubbo could have more independent living options if a $19m expansion of an existing seniors housing complex is approved.

RSL Lifecare has lodged plans to extend Horizons Retirement Village on Minore Rd to include an additional 32 single-storey units at the facility.

The extra independent living units are the latest stages in the development of the 16 hectare housing complex.

“The proposed development will be located on the cleared area of land to the east of the main entrance driveway,” the plans state.

Stages one to seven have been completed at the village including community facilities and internal infrastructure throughout the site.

The expansion is valued at $19m.

The planned extension is estimated to be worth more than $19 million.

According to a planning documents, there are four different two-bedroom designs proposed for the development with each varying in size.

The additional independent living units are targeted to “promote the delivery and maintenance of affordable housing”, according to the plans.

“The proposed buildings will be single story and are not anticipated to impact on solar access to adjoining properties,” the developer said.

“The seniors housing will provide additional housing opportunities to Dubbo’s ageing population.

“The proposed seniors housing development has been architecturally designed with consideration of the existing character within the Horizons Village development.

“The mix of attached and detached single story dwellings provide 5.5m driveway setbacks which mirror existing dwellings within the estate.”

According to the developer, crime prevention has been “considered” through the use of fencing, front windows and low-level plantings to maintain passive surveillance and security over the facility.

Horizons Village operates a private bus service for residents which runs frequently throughout the week.

The site is located within walking distance, via a footpath along Minore Rd, to Delroy Park Shopping Centre offering residents essential retail and medical services.
