The state government is set to build a brand-new multimillion-dollar sports centre at a Dubbo secondary school, including new and additional classrooms, with construction starting last month.
NSW Department of Education has proposed and started building a $5 million sports centre at Dubbo College South Campus, including a sports gymnasium encompassing two indoor multipurpose courts, a fitness lab, five additional classrooms, changing rooms, a staffroom and a sports store.
Two existing sheds and multiple trees will be demolished in the area to provide a clear site for the facility, proposals submitted to Dubbo Council said.
According to the developer, there is no room for public seating in the facility so “it is not anticipated the hall will be leased out to the public (during) out of school hours or used for school assemblies”.
“The community is likely to be more understanding and accepting of the noise where the information provided such as special events is forthright, does not attempt to understate the likely noise impacts and where commitments made such as start and stop times are firmly adhered to,” the developer said.
NSW Department of Education spokesman said sport is an “important part” of the school’s community.
“In the past, students have gone on to represent the state of NSW and the country at the highest level for various sports,” the spokesman said.
According to NSW Department of Education, development of the regional sports centre commenced last month and will be completed by early 2024.
“We are excited for the College and the wider community that such a great facility is on the way,” the spokesman said.
