A masterplan for a $151 million mixed-use health facility, which will feature a four-storey building comprising of a medical centre, education units and other facilities, has been revealed to the public.
The six-stage concept consists of health and education facilities, respite daycare, childcare, seniors living and offices spaces, which will establish internal roads, associated parking and landscaping.
The initial stage of construction, valuing more than $29.7 million, will feature a pharmacy, pathology and radiology units, consulting rooms, cafe, florist, education facility and a day surgery recovery centre with 37 beds.
The proposed facility is set to be on 40 Cobbora Road – strategically located near Dubbo Base Hospital, TAFE NSW and Charles Sturt University.
A planner for the developer said the proposed facility would “support the local population, especially the ageing population and provide local employment”.
“To strengthen the role of Dubbo as a regional city, (the community) needs to capitalise on sectors such as education, professional and health services”.
The developer said the multi-use facility will “continue to strengthen and deliver the vision for the Dubbo Education and Health Precinct”.
According to the regional plan, regional cities are expected to provide regional-scale health, education, civil, transport and administrative services for their communities.
“They are a focal point for aged care, community services and government jobs, while also being sporting, tourism and event destinations,” The council’s regional plan said.
The developer said it would focuses on the economic growth of Dubbo by “activating” vacant sites and providing a mix of uses.
“These facilities increase diversity within centres and contribute to the unique lifestyles they offer,” the developer said.
The plan is on exhibition until April 24.
