A boarding house which will be designed to accommodate doctors, nurses, students and elderly has been given the green light.
The development for a 24-bedroom boarding house, includes 11 parking spaces, a manager’s residence, an office, and shared laundry, lounge and gym facilities.
The $2.2 million site on 61 Darling St in Dubbo, will feature a toilet and wash sink, a cooker, fridge and a wardrobe in each room.
A planner for the project said the development is likely to provide “positive social impacts” given it will increase the supply of affordable housing, in an accessible location.
“Affordable housing has become an essential residential type in the City of Dubbo,” the planner said.
“The development proposal contributes to existing development in the area, providing affordable housing for a community who needs it.”
The boarding house would also have a live in manager and administration staff who would police the “house rules” on issues such as overnight visitors, alcohol, smoking and cleanliness.
The planner said the site is located near transportation, walking and cycling connectivity and is close to Dubbo’s CBD.
“The communal facilities in the design of the development will facilitate social interaction among residents which will result in both active and passive recreation on the site and throughout the city of Dubbo,” the planner said.
