A man who allegedly led police on a wild pursuit through the state’s west while he allegedly had a machete, knives and drugs in his vehicle has been charged
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers were in Cowra as part of Operation Furious to target speed and dangerous driving offences.
Police allege a 24-year-old man behind the wheel of a Ford Falcon driver was allegedly speeding on the Mid Western Highway about 12.15am, before a police pursuit was initiated.
In a statement NSW Police said the vehicle stopped a short time later.
During a search of his vehicle, police allege they found a machete, two knives and prohibited drugs.
The man underwent a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.
A subsequent roadside drug test allegedly returned a positive result but police have not laid any charges in relation to this.
He was arrested and taken to Cowra Police Station, where he was charged with eight offences, including a police pursuit as a second offence, two counts of having custody of a knife in a public place and driving disqualified.
He was also charged with two counts of prohibited drug possession, using an uninsured motor vehicle on the road and using an unregistered motor vehicle on the road.
The man appeared at Cowra Local Court on Thursday where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on June 21.
During the course of the operation, police issued 15 charges and five drink-driving charges, 395 traffic infringement notices, which included 203 infringements for speeding, five unrestrained child offences, 24 school zone offences and 23 heavy vehicle offences.
