A community pool in the state’s west has been forced to close until Wednesday after vandals stole a first aid kit and technology.

Orana Mid-Western Police District officers have commenced an investigation into a forced break-in at the Coonabarabran swimming pool following reports a first aid kit, a speaker and a tablet was stolen.

Warrumbungle Shire Council mayor Ambrose Doolan said council resolved to make entry to the public pools free this season while a pool attendant was on duty.

“Like usual, there is only a small number of people that want to spoil it for the majority,” Mr Doolan said.

“It is already a difficult job for our pool attendants without some people making it even more difficult with bad behaviour.

“Poor behaviour at the pools is not to be accepted and council has processes in place to deal with poor conduct.

“If patrons do see poor behaviour at the pools, then I would urge them to report the conduct to the pool attendants.

Council said because of the incident, the pool would be open exclusively for Season Ticket Holders on Monday and Tuesday.

“This temporary closure is necessary until the council is able to restock first-aid supplied and complete the required repairs,” council staff said.

“We would like to emphasise that acts of vandalism and break ins at swimming pools have a significant impact on the daily operations of our facilities.

“The added cost of replacing stolen items and conducting repairs poses challenges to maintaining the quality of service we aim to provide.”

As inquiries continue, anyone with information about this incident, or dashcam or CCTV from the area is urged to contact Coonabarabran Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
