Cobar: Woman charged with fatal crash, child dead

A woman has been charged after a child died in a crash in the state’s central west, while a man in his 60s died in a separate crash after a horror weekend.

A woman has been charged following a fatal crash, involving a child, in the state’s outback on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the Barrier Highway, Cubba, about 25km west of Cobar, following reports of a car crash.

Central North Police District officers attended the scene and found a car had left the roadway and rolled.

A 14-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was treated by NSW Ambulance but died at the scene.

The 23-year-old female driver was uninjured and taken to Cobar District Hospital for mandatory testing. Two other passengers were uninjured.

The driver was taken to Cobar Police Station shortly after and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.

She was granted conditional bail to appear before Cobar Local Court on November 27.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

MOLONG

In another horrific tragedy, a 62-year-old man died following a car crash in Molong on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to Queen St, Molong, where Central West Police District officers, along with the Rural Fire Service and NSW Ambulance found a vehicle had left the roadway and rolled. The driver died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and an investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

A man will face court after allegedly stealing a luxury vehicle and taking police on a wild chase in Orange.

Central West Police District officers were patrolling Cameron Pl when they attempted to stop a white Audi sedan about 4am on Sunday.

The pursuit continued through Anson St before it was terminated for safety concerns.

Road spikes were deployed on Mitchell Highway a short time later and the vehicle came to a stop.

However, the driver allegedly ran from the car and could not be located.

The 20-year-old man was arrested after being located under a house on South Terrace.

He was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter in company to steal more than $60,000, driving a stolen vehicle and be carried in a stolen vehicle.

Police believed the sedan was stolen from a business on Gateway Cres about an hour before the pursuit.

The man was refused bail and appeared before Dubbo Local Court on Sunday.
