A man who allegedly killed a Nyngan farmer just over a year ago has been committed for trial and is expected to plead not guilty.
Clinton Beau Wrigley, of Warren, faced Dubbo Local Court via an audiovisual link from Wellington Correctional Centre, for the alleged murder of Joel Carter, as well as other property offences.
Police claim Wrigley murdered Mr Carter on his Miandetta property, 27km east of Nyngan, on January 23, 2023, and stole his HiLux and caused damage to his property by fire.
Including his murder charge, Wrigley is also charged with larceny, damaging property and stealing a motor vehicle.
The 39-year-old will be arraigned at a Sydney Supreme Court on March 8, where he is expected to plead not guilty.
Emergency services were called to a property on Gilgai Rd at Miandetta – after concerns were raised for the welfare of the resident on about 7.45am on January 25, 2023.
Police located the body of the 59-year-old farmer inside the property, a few days after his death.
An investigation found Mr Carter died from significant head trauma.
Strike Force Namadgi was created to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Carter’s death.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested Wrigley during a vehicle stop on Garden Ave at Ravenswood – about 120km east of where Mr Carter’s was located – about 3.30pm on March 28, 2023.
Wrigley was taken to Warren Police Station where he was charged with the farmer’s murder.
Mr Carter has been described as a “true blue Aussie gentleman” by friends and family.
