Central West Street Watch: Truck crash causes power outage to more than 2000 homes in Dubbo
More than 2000 homes in a Central West town lost power following a single-vehicle crash into a power pole. Here is this week’s Street Watch.

DUBBO
Emergency services were called to Cobbora Rd, Dubbo, following reports of a single-vehicle crash after a truck had damaged a power pole about 3.30pm on Monday.
The 25-year-old male driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, returning a negative result.
More than 2000 homes in East Dubbo lost power for an hour following the incident, making this the second incident involving a mass power outage in a week.
On January 23, a man in his 70s reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a power pole in West Dubbo causing a similar outage.
Orana Mid-Western Police District officers have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Essential Energy’s chief operating officer Luke Jenner said Essential Energy crews respond to an outage after a vehicle comes into contact with a power pole to protect the safety of the community.
“The number one priority during any network outage is securing the safety of the site before restoring power and carrying out the necessary repairs,” Mr Jenner said.
“Network outages vary in length of time and are dependent on the ability for our crews to safely access the site and complete the necessary work.
“Always treat powerlines as though they are live and remember that anything that comes in contact with them, such as cars, trees or fences, can conduct electricity and pose a danger.”
DUBBO
Emergency services were called to a house fire in the state’s central west on Monday night, following reports to fire activity in the roof and ceiling.
Fire and Rescue NSW arrived at a home in Alam St, Dubbo, about 7.45pm on Monday night after reports of a house fire.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry said there were 20 firefighters on the scene who pulled the roof down to contain the fire.
Firefighters managed to quickly control the fire and stopped it from burning onto neighbouring homes.
He said the fire was contained in roughly 45 minutes, with crews leaving the scene about 10.30pm later that night.
There have been no reports of anyone at the property during the fire.
NARROMINE
Emergency services were called to a private property in the state’s central west, following reports of a single-vehicle crash on January 25.
Orana Mid-Western Police District officers attended a private property on Narwonah Rd, Narromine, about 3.30pm, and were told an all-terrain vehicle had crashed and ejected the driver.
A 51-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however he died at the scene.
A crime scene has been established as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
WALLERAWANG
The body of a man has been found following the search of a lake in the Central Tablelands on the weekend.
Emergency services attended Lake Wallace on Barton Ave, Wallerawang, about 1.50pm on January 26, following reports a 42-year-old man was missing in the water.
Police were told the man was on a paddle board and a strong wind allegedly knocked it over before he went missing.
Chifley Police District officers began searching for the missing man, assisted by NSW Ambulance, VRA Rescue, State Emergency Services, Police Rescue, Marine Area Command and police divers.
The body of a 42-year-old man was located on January 28 – he has now been formally identified as the missing man.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
BATHURST
Two men and a woman have been charged after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Bathurst on January 26.
Emergency services were called to Howick St, about 9.20pm, following reports a pedestrian had been seriously injured.
Police were told a silver sedan had allegedly hit a 46-year-old man before leaving without rendering aid or calling for help.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was flown to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Following investigations and an appeal, police attended a home in Osborne St, Bathurst, the following day and arrested a 42-year-old man.
Sean Matthew Pitty was taken to Bathurst Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning in grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm, negligent driving and not disclosing identify of driver and passengers as required.
Pitty attended Bathurst Local Court on January 29 and was refused bail. He will appear via video link on February 14.
A 40-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man have been charged with concealing a serious indictable offence.
Both have been granted conditional bail to appear before Bathurst Local Court on February 28.
DUBBO
Emergency services were called to the intersection of the Newell Hwy and Burraway Rd, Brocklehurst, about 5.20pm on January 26, following reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a Toyota Camry and a truck.
The driver of the car – a 73-year-old man – and two passengers were checked at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Dubbo Base Hospital with minor injuries. The 24-year-old male truck driver was not injured.
Both drivers were given a breath test, returning a negative result.
