A Bourke man who was on parole allegedly committed five offences, including common assault and assaulting a police officer, during an outburst in front of a PCYC, a court has heard.
Vincent Kenneth, 34, appeared in Dubbo Local Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to charges of destroy or damage property, threaten to destroy or damage property, resist police, assault police, and common assault.
Charge sheets tendered to the court state Mr Kenneth allegedly started slingshotting sockets at the PCYC across the road, narrowly missing the alleged victim, who is Mr Kenneth’s cousin, on January 25.
According to court documents, Mr Kenneth allegedly started yelling at his cousin while threatening to burn their car.
The cousin later allegedly found his windscreen shattered and a window smashed on the passenger’s side door.
The police attended the scene about 5.30pm and arrested Mr Kenneth who allegedly resisted the arrest.
Mr Kenneth allegedly bit one police officer on the forearm and injured another police officer.
The accused was taken to Bourke Police Station while the two officers attended Bourke District Hospital.
Police prosecutor Ben Bragger told the court Mr Kenneth was “well known to the police” and had “previously been charged 72 times”.
The court heard Mr Kenneth had previously been charged for offences relating to destroying or damaging property, assaulting a police officer, resisting and hindering police, breach of bail, common assault, robbery and larceny, and drug use.
“It is clear from the accused criminal history that he has serious history of violence and will continue to commit such offences,” Mr Bragger said.
Magistrate Gary Wilson warned Mr Kenneth the alleged behaviour was “serious” and refused bail.
The matter will return to Dubbo Local Court on March 9.
