Couple's joy over Airbnb pub grant

Explore the Central West’s hidden gems and get to know local producers by staying in unique Airbnb’s which are quickly becoming an ideal way to spend a short getaway.

From staying in a church, to hundreds of acres of isolated land, here is a list designed to make you want to explore the countryside starting with accommodation.

The Milk Bar Airbnb owner Edwina Yeates moved back to Mudgee five years ago and put her newly purchased home on Airbnb to assist with mortgage repayments.

“It ended up doing really well so that was pretty nifty, in the end, I moved in with my sister and ended up doing it full-time for a little while which was great,” Ms Yeates said.

“My sister bought a house and was living in Sydney at the time, so I managed the one she bought too.”

Ms Yeates noticed a boom in Mudgee’s tourism sector and created more accommodation at her family’s winery, Yeates Wines, providing two spaces overlooking the vineyards, situated at the cellar door.

The Gate House and Vine Loft are located on a working vineyard and within our cellar door grounds, just minutes from Mudgee and moments away from some of the region’s best wine and foodie destinations.

“I like being able to help visitors connect with local businesses rather than the ones who are just being advertised.

“If there is a new restaurant opening up, I can tell people to go there or I tell people to go to the local butcher because they have great steak instead of going to Woolies or Coles.”
