It is the public swimming pool that is a haven for sports carnivals and family fun, but Dubbo residents are set to suffer as staff shortages see facilities close at the local aquatic centre.

Staff shortages have been blamed for waning services at Dubbo Regional Auatic Centres, as swimming events are cancelled and facilities are closing.
Earlier this year, Dubbo Regional Council announced Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre would be managed by Belgravia Leisure, despite opposition from councillor Joshua Black.
“I’ve been contacted by people who use the facility saying that there isn’t enough staff to run the water slide and open the canteen at the Dubbo pool,” Cr Black told The Dubbo News.
“There’s also been some concerns expressed from pool users at Wellington regarding the same concerns with staffing issues.
“I’m hoping that some resolution can be found so the Dubbo carnival may go ahead as there are concerns it may be cancelled.”
A Belgravia Leisure spokesman told The Dubbo News the canteen remains temporarily closed and is expected to commence operation on November 10, while the waterslide does not have a set date.
The spokesman confirmed there are 31 staff members at the aquatic centre with multiple positions vacant, including lifeguards, learn to swim instructors and a venue manager.
“Our specific challenge lies in finding mature aged staff members with increased availability to join our team,” he said.
“To address the staffing challenges we face, Belgravia has made significant efforts, including flying in leadership and lifeguards over the past two months.
“This has incurred a substantial cost, but it was necessary to ensure the continued smooth operation of the centre.”
Orana Aquatic Swimming Club’s committee has announced the cancellation of Orana Aquatic Carnival and have outlined it was “due to matters beyond the club's control”.
The club said they are trying to organise an event later in the season.
