The Northern Beaches Clean Up Crew collected rubbish at Manly Beach on Wednesday as part of NewsLocal’s DoSomething Day campaign. They have encouraged others to get involved.
Seven of the volunteers — who usually do clean-ups on the peninsula on the last Sunday of every month — dedicated their time on Wednesday to helping keep Manly clean and beautiful.
The crew, who have been cleaning beaches for close to four years, often get up to 40 people helping out.
Kobie Joyce said the crew were passionate about looking after the area they lived in — while also spreading awareness to others.
“Basically we are trying to get out the single-use plastics that we don't need to use,” he said.
“We (also) try to get people to share as much information as they can on social media because, at the end of the day, we can continue to pick up rubbish but we will never stop it if we can’t change people’s habits (of littering) and the companies that produce the rubbish in the first place.”

Mr Joyce encouraged people to do their bit for DoSomething Day by picking up any rubbish they came across today.
“It’s not a hard to just pick up a little rubbish down at the beach,” he said.
“There is always rubbish there — if you see it, pick it up.”
People are being urged to join the crew for a clean up at Collins Beach, Manly from 10am on Sunday.
The clean-up will last for an hour.
