Winter is a slow period for blood donations but Jim’s Pool Care Sydney East franchises have risen to the challenge.
Randwick’s Robert Sara, Chris Stephandellis (Woollahra), franchisor Brad Papworth and Mark Turner (Hurstville) gave blood at the Australian Red Cross Coogee Oval mobile donor centre recently.
The Australian Red Cross is appealing for donors as the flu season creates a shortfall of supply. In particular, the blood service needs O-negative blood type donors from now until the end of July as this blood type is particularly useful when a patient’s blood type is unknown.
Mr Sara’s father receives regularly receives intravenous immunoglobulin from blood once a month due to an auto-immune disease. “His life depends on it,” Mr Sara said.
“We’re challenging other businesses and tradespeople to get a group together, roll up a sleeve and give generously to others in need.”
Residents are being urged to donate blood and do other acts of kindness on Wednesday for DoSomething Day.
