THE incredible true story of an amateur sailor’s dangerous solo voyage around the world has been recreated by a star-studded cast.

Academy Award-winning director James Marsh has followed up the critically-acclaimed The Theory of Everything with the biopic The Mercy, which sails into cinemas on March 8.

It tells the tale of British businessman Donald Crowhurst, played by Colin Firth, who competed in the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe yacht race in the hope of becoming the first person in history to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe without stopping.

The highly anticipated film chronicles the struggles he confronted throughout the epic journey on his boat the Teignmouth Electron while his wife Clare, played by Rachel Weisz, and children waited for his return.
