IF ALLAMBIE surf ski paddler Tim Jacobs wins the 2014 Lion Island Challenge tomorrow the organisers might have to rename the event after him next year.
Jacobs, 36, will compete in the challenge for the eighth time in a row, after winning all previous seven he has taken part in.
Hosted by Avalon Beach Surf Life Saving Club, the challenge sees surfcraft competitors – ranging from surf skis to stand-up paddleboards – race 14km from Pittwater's Station Beach to Lion Island and back.
While you would expect each year to get a little tougher on the body for Jacobs, the man himself said he was very confident of performing well ahead of his first race since late last year.
“The body is feeling all right,” he said.
”I don’t know how many years I do have left in me with training and racing but I still really enjoy it and I love it.”
Jacobs said he felt he had trained particularly well for this year’s challenge in preparation for larger races next month.
