Marrickville servo: Woolloomooloo man charged with robbery, assaulting police officer

A Woolloomooloo man is accused of robbing a service station before he allegedly assaulted a female detective.

A 48-year-old Woolloomooloo man will front court accused of robbing a Metro Petroleum Service Station late at night in Marrickville, before allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Police were called to the service station on Enmore Rd about 10.40pm on Wednesday following reports of an armed robbery.

Officers were told the man was possibly armed with a firearm when he entered the store and threatened an employee.

The man allegedly stole cash from the employee before fleeing, and was last seen heading south along Enmore Rd.

The employee was uninjured.

Inner West police established a crime scene at the station and following investigations, officers from the Kings Cross Police Area Command attended a unit on Stephen Street, Woolloomooloo, where they arrested the 48-year-old man.

Police searched the man and allegedly seized 2.28 grams of methamphetamine.

He was taken to Kings Cross Police Station where he allegedly assaulted a female detective.

The man was charged with assault officer in execution of duty, robbery armed with offensive weapon and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and is to appear before Central Local Court on Friday.
