TRAFFIC lights will be installed at the "notoriously dangerous" Bay St intersection after a successful campaign by Botany residents.
Parents and staff from Botany Public School, John Brotchie Nursery School and Hippo's Friends Childcare Centre have campaigned since 2009 for lights to create a safe passage for children to get to school.
Council have allocated funding for the lights.
Botany mother Melissa Darke said the need for traffic lights is urgent.
"The intersection is notoriously dangerous for the school children, pre-schoolers and their families," she said.
"We are grateful the council has listened and now acted upon our concerns."
Botany mayor, Ben Keneally said the lights will make it safer and will make the intersection smoother.
Botany Council has allocated funding for the lights and will now work with the Roads and Maritime Services on issues related to modelling, parking, signals and design.
