The new blockbuster Lego Movie produced at Animal Logic Studios in Moore Park brings to life the popular plastic toys that have been entertaining children for more than 80 years.
Associate producer on the Lego Movie and animation producer with Animal Logic Amber Naismith said the company’s successful track record of films helped it produce the box office smash.
“We are an animation and visual effects company and we have worked on a number of films over the years since we began in 1991,” she said.
“In the animation side of things we have done Happy Feet, Legend of the Guardians and the Lego Movie. In our visual effects department we have done The Matrix, Great Gatsby and Walking with Dinosaurs.
“Obviously technology has improved exponentially over the last 10 years and we have developed a lot of the technology ourselves to ensure we have the right know-how to work on each project.
“For instance, with Happy Feet we had to create these very realistic penguins and with Lego we had to make photo real plastic.
“And we had obvious limitations working with Lego on film; one example is they can’t shrug their shoulders so we had to come up with new ways for them to express emotions.”
Ms Naismith expected Australian audiences of all ages would identify with the film’s inspirational message encouraging people to follow their dreams and never conform.
“One of the important things about this film is that it’s for people of all ages,” she said. “There is a strong message in there about not conforming to society.”
