Meet the woman behind the activewear viral video that’s taken the world by storm
THE parody video of women in active wear who don’t appear to be doing anything at all has taken the world by storm — and it was inspired by Bondi.
WOMEN in fluoro tops and black tights lugging bags of groceries into their Jeep Wrangler — it’s a typical sight in Bondi, and the inspiration for the most watched viral video this week.
Sydney comedy trio Skit Box unleashed the parody video poking fun at women in activewear, which has since racked up almost one million views on Youtube.
Skit Box member and Bondi local Adele Vuko said the video was a direct play on the eastern suburbs.
“I walk around Bondi Junction and see women in tights walking around the shops, or down at the mums and bubs group at Coogee pushing prams,” she said.
“Activewear is a phenomenon across the world, but it’s such a weird little culture in the eastern suburbs in particular.”
Vuko, 29, said the online reaction to the video had been “insane” in both Australia and across the world.
“We were on The Project and Sunrise and even morning shows in America have played the clip,” she said.
“We uploaded it on Tuesday and within an hour it already had 20,000 views, and it’s just snowballed from there.”
The clip was directed by comedian and Bondi Hipster star Christiaan Van Vuuren, who also happens to be Vuko’s partner.
“It’s awesome to be on board with those guys, because they already have such a big name online,” she said.

“They’ve been really supportive of Skit Box and are really into collaborations with other comedy groups.”
The viral video release comes after Skit Box’s sketch show pilot aired on ABC iView earlier this month.
“We didn’t plan on it helping our cause with the pilot, but it’s been a case of right place, right time,” Vuko said. “Hopefully we hear good things about the pilot soon.”
