Maroubra tennis star sets her sights on playing at tennis grand slam before by her 16th birthday
A talented southeast tennis star has smashed a series of national and international events. She is now aiming for a grand slam.

VALETINA Ivanov, who is already familiar with the world court, has set her sights on qualifying for a grand slam before her sweet 16th.
Last year was big for the Year 8 Reddam House student, making 16 out of 128 girls at an under-14 championship in Florida, winning the under-16 New Zealand nationals and qualifying for several overseas world cups.
Valetina said competing at the top junior level was challenging.
“There’s a lot of pressure involved but you can only do your best,” she said.
The Australian resident and New Zealand citizen is considered a potential top 150 player at the open level.

She said her goal was firmly set on playing in a grand slam by the age of 16.
“I’ve been working on my footwork, how I move on the court and just little things like my forehand and backhands,” she said.
Oksana Ivanov said her daughter was an inspiration to other young players at the Snape Park Tennis Centre, where she trains.
“She is a hard worker and fully dedicates her time to tennis before and after school,” Ms Ivanov said.
“With her great achievements she is very inspiring.”
A dual New Zealand-Australia citizen, Valentina will next travel to Shepparton in Victoria to play against 19 Oceanic nations in April. where she will represent New Zealand.
