Dog owner Paul Mansour, who was walking through the park, was forced to thrown his pet into the woman’s bathroom when he saw the pair running towards him.

“I heard a commotion behind me and I turned around and saw dog owners frantically throwing their dogs over the fence and then all of a sudden these two buffalo came around from the other side of the oval and begin flying up the hill,” he said.

“There were these guys in a truck following a few second behind chasing them. I quickly threw my dog into the ladies toilets. It was an interesting start to the morning.”

A spokesperson from Fire & Rescue NSW said the buffalo had been detained in a temporary pen built from materials found on their emergency vehicle.

“We responded to a call the water buffalo were on the loose and the crew from our Newtown office managed corral them and build a pen out of material found on their truck like ladders and bit of equipment,” a spokesperson said.

“They escaped from a film set where they were shooting an ad. I imagine the crew that caught them have never done anything like this before.”

Fire & Rescue NSW are currently waiting for the handlers to collect the animals.
