A woman has been treated for a cut to the head after being struck by a flying projectile at a protest outside the German embassy Sydney’s CBD.
The mystery object was believed to have been launched by a car at the group of Ukrainian protesters standing on William St, Woolloomooloo about 12.55pm on Tuesday.
“We attended to a female on William St with a small laceration to her head after she allegedly had something thrown out of a car at her,” a NSW Ambulance spokesman said.
“We sent two teams, but we did not transport anyone to hospital.”
The alleged victim of the projectile attack was part of a group of people protesting the war in Ukraine.
Anton Bogdanovych, an organiser from Australia for Ukraine, said the protest demonstration was in protest of Germany stopping the gas and oil embargo in Europe.
“We were just standing here peacefully protesting like we do for the past 62 days,” he said.
“And then I heard some people‘s like, screaming and some police coming. Apparently one of the women who was with us was hit by a metal bolt.”
Mr Bogdanovych told NewsLocal he did not know where the metal item came from, but it could have been from a passing car.
He said there was also a child in a pram right next to where the woman was hit, and it could have been the child that was hurt or injured.
“This is the first time this happened to us, [it] usually goes peacefully,” he said. “No one gets attacked.”
When asked if he thought the reason the woman was attacked was because she was participating in the protest, Mr Bogdanovych said “why else”.
A video posted to Australia for Ukraine social media page showed a woman being treated by a paramedic for an injury to their head.
