Two men arrested after drugs allegedly found in garden lamp package
Two men were arrested outside an apartment in Sydney’s CBD following a raid after border force officers allegedly found drugs inside a package sent from Germany last week.
More than $600,000 worth of MDMA and ‘ice’ were found inside in a package containing garden lamps that was sent from Germany, police allege.
Omar Mashrap, 32, faced Central Local Court today charged with possession and importation of a border-controlled drug, after police raided an apartment on Sussex St, Sydney about 6pm on Wednesday. It is alleged the drugs have a potential street value of more than $600,000 and Mr Mashrap was arrested outside the apartment.
A second man, 22, was also arrested outside the unit but has been released pending further inquiries.
The raid followed the discovery 5.5kg of MDMA and 500g of methylamphetamine — or ‘ice’ — by Australian Border Force officers inside a consignment on August 7.
Sydney City police were alerted, who formed Strike Force Dobem to investigate the importation.
Following investigations the two men were arrested on Wednesday, August 14.
Police also allegedly seized air cargo packaging, mobile phones, and various documentation during the raid.
Mashrap was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
Investigations under Strike Force Dobem are ongoing.
