The man accused of killing George Yuhan Lin after running over him in his garbage truck in the CBD is now facing a charge that he interfered with the corpse to “pervert the course of justice”.

Tuiniua Fine, 51, was charged with six offences including manslaughter, fail to stop and assist and dangerous driving, after he allegedly reversed over the 21-year-old on Central St, Sydney, on February 13 about 1.30am.

In his first court appearance in February, Fine claimed it was “an accident”.

Police also alleged Fine got out of his truck after the incident and moved Mr Lin’s body off the roadway before fleeing the scene.

The whole incident was caught on CCTV and he was charged on February 13 with interfering with a corpse.

But police now allege that Fine moved the body for the reason of “perverting the course of justice”.

The fresh charge was laid on Wednesday and Mr Fine appeared at Central Local Court on Thursday.

A court previously heard that Mr Lin was killed when Fine reversed his heavy vehicle in a dangerous manner in an area known for pedestrian and vehicular activity, before failing to stop and provide assistance to Mr Lin.

It is alleged Mr Lin was walking along Central St looking at his phone and with his earphones on when he was struck by the truck.

Police stopped the garbage truck in Kings Cross later that morning at 4.30am and arrested Mr Fine.

The Carlingford man - who ran his own tutoring business helping others succeed in HSC economics - was remembered by former students as a “kind and supportive” teacher who lit up the room.

Mr Fine will return to court on September 8.
