The Choir of Man, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit where nine English lads sing with pints of beer, is coming to Sydney and best of all we get to join in the fun.
“Choir of Man is a British stage show set in a pub,” Choir of Man co-creator and musical director Jack Blume said.
“We have a cast of nine lads who go on stage and sing pop song,s ranging Paul Simon through to Adele, in this pub we’ve built on stage and it is a real functioning bar so we give out free beers.
“At the top of the show, before they do any singing, when the audience enters they can get up on stage and get free pints from the bar and chat to the guys and the barman. And once the show starts properly it talks a lot about modern masculinity, about friendship and camaraderie as well as pub culture; it has real heart to it.”
Performing pub tunes, folk, rock, choral, opera and Broadway numbers, the cast showcases world-class tap dancers, acrobats, singers, instrumentalists, and poets.
The Choir of Man combines great vocals with high energy dance, live percussion and foot stomping choreography.
Blume described it as a musical adventure and a show for all ages.
Sydney Opera House head of contemporary performance Olivia Ansell said this show had taken the world by storm: “The soaring popularity of choirs the world over proves that human connection, music and mateship is still at the heart of who we are”.
