The Chippo Hotel’s brand new menu make over sees it becomes the first ever Sydney based vegan pub, located in the heart of Chippendale

Chicken parma, bangers & mash, fish & chips, and fried chicken burgers may look like the typical restaurant menu at your local boozer, but this pub has a surprising catch – its completely vegan.

A historic change to Sydney has just arrived with the introduction of the first ever all vegan pub ‘The Chippo’, with people lining out the door to get a taste of their new menu, but owner Bhavani Baumann insists “we are just a normal Australian pub”.

The menu boosts mouth-watering items from their fried chicken platters, calamari, vegan cheese platter, caviar waffles and the house favourite Zinga Burger.

Thankfully, Baumann is no slouch when it comes to cooking, having previously run The Green Lion pub in Marrickville and Sanga in St Peters she brings a wealth of knowledge that has her trying to win over non vegan believers.

“I really try make the food for the non vegans, they are the ones I have to win across,” she said.

“There is a misconception behind veganism, So I try to make it as real and hearty as possible.”

And according to Baumann, that is exactly what she has done, with locals who have been going to the pub for years “not even able to tell the difference.

“They’ve got used to it they come in and eat with us and they’re happy,” she said.

“A lot of them don't even know it’s vegan when they eat it.”

“It’s just like the pub food you remember and everyone knows and loves.”

However, it’s not just the food that will go vegan with their new “Fancy Sh*t” menu that includes cocktails, a custom Mama B Pale Ale by well known Yulli’s Brews.

The pub which has been a staple of Chippendale for years, is not just seeing a menu make over, but will also no gambling with the old pokies room is turning into a breakout space to be used for meetings, studying, private dining or just as a chill out space.

With a positive feed back from the community Baumann hopes she can continue to support her local fans,

“The Chippo is a community where everybody is welcome, and as a heritage location that holds a special place in Sydney’s heart, we feel so lucky to be a part of its next chapter,” she said.

“Together, we’re crafting a venue that’s not just a pub, but a go-to spot for the community, from students and professionals to friends and family”.
