From the dust of the state’s former Coroners Court, a NSW Ambulance ‘superstation’ may soon rise to help save lives.
A state-of-the-art ambulance ‘superstation’ has been proposed for Parramatta Rd, Glebe in an effort to improve paramedic services in Sydney’s CBD.
A Health Infrastructure spokesman has confirmed the wrecking ball will soon crash down on the neglected complex with hopes construction on the three-storey superstation would launch next year.
“This new operating model will ensure NSW Ambulance paramedics are strategically
placed to meet the emergency medical needs of metropolitan Sydney communities now
and into the future,” the spokesman said.
No other ambulance stations will close as a result. The new superstation will instead act as a central hub.
The Coroners Court and morgue was built in the late 1960s and has held inquiries into the Thredbo landslide and Newcastle earthquake tragedies.
Part of the site has been earmarked to be used for residential or commercial uses, but no plans have yet been formally lodged.
The project, to be known as Central Sydney Ambulance Station, will have the potential to staff 50 employees at the one time and house 30 ambulance vehicles.
Pending approval, the ‘superstation’ is expected to be complete in 2023.
