The frontman from an Australian indie rock band is preparing to put himself in a drug and alcohol rehab program after denying allegations he stole a roast chicken and iced coffee from a supermarket in Sydney.

Sticky Fingers’ lead singer Dylan James Frost has pleaded not guilty to a singular charge of larceny after his matter was first mentioned at Downing Centre Local Court.

Police allege in court documents the 34-year-old stole a half-priced roast chicken for $6.50 along with an Ice Break Double Espresso which was valued at $2.65 from Woolworths Metro in Haymarket between 1pm and 1.40pm on June 27.

Frost’s girlfriend Elyssa Ford, 23, was also charged with larceny with police alleging she stole a Life Savers Raspberry Stix from the same store, during the same time period.

Ford is yet to enter a plea to the charge as the pair did not appear in court on Monday.

The registrar told the court they had each sent correspondence about why they were unable to attend.

The registrar said Frost had submitted a not guilty plea and he was “currently in [the] process of putting himself [in] a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program”.

As for Ford, the registrar said she had received a medical report indicating she was having some health issues.

The court heard she was also residing out of NSW and in Queensland.

The registrar accepted Frost’s plea, making a brief of evidence service orders and adjourning the matter to September 30 where a hearing date could be set down.

Ford’s matter was adjourned for two weeks with the registrar saying “if she can’t travel” she could notify the court with her plea.

Despite their global popularity, The Daily Telegraph previously reported the Sticky Fingers had been mired in controversy in 2016 following allegations of racism, sexism, transphobia and violence from frontman Frost.

It saw Frost respond to his past antics saying “boys will be boys” during an interview on Triple J Hack with the band releasing a statement on Instagram saying the comment was in “no way intended to show we aren’t genuinely on a path to positive change”.

Frost’s alleged shoplifting comes months after Lachlan Galbraith, a vocalist and keyboardist from Australian rock band Ocean Alley, apologised online for “an act of complete foolishness” after stealing a Yeti drink bottle lid from a store in New Zealand in January.

Mr Galbraith said he had “rectified the situation” and the store accepted his apology.
