A man’s “unusual” crotch bulge has played a role in the downfall of a dial-a-dealer running cocaine to buyers across the heart of Sydney.

Sammy Baghdadi, 29, sat inside a Mazda 3 on a narrow Surry Hills laneway on a Friday night last September as plain-clothed police roamed the city on the lookout for drug supply.

Officers watched on as a man withdrew cash from a convenience store ATM before suspiciously running away from his mate down a laneway.

Police facts state the man entered the back of Baghdadi’s waiting car and was driven 50m before leaving and returning to his pals.

Police officers swooped on the buyer with court documents stating he immediately gave up the dealer, confessing to buying two bags of cocaine for $600 and providing photos of the messages and calls between the pair.

When police caught up to Baghdadi, officers spotted an “unusual” bulge through his tight tracksuit pants and subjected him to a strip search.

The Villawood man wasn’t keen to take off his knickers, the police facts state, however a black material sunglasses case was ultimately located containing seven bags of cocaine.

A search of his car found $6335 in cash, all the property proceeds of crime.

Baghdadi’s lawyer told the court the 29-year-old man had been a user-dealer but had cleaned up his act following his arrest after attending rehabilitation programs.

The court heard he suffered from depression and anxiety, was unemployed at the time and had previously been homeless for a period of time.

Baghdadi was convicted and sentenced to a year-long community corrections order for two counts of drug supply, and a 14-month community correction order for dealing with the property proceeds of crime.
