Redfern Police arrest man after Range Rover carjacking

A 24-year-old man lead police on a pursuit and was arrested after a carjacking in Redfern earlier today.

A 24-year-old man lead police on a pursuit and was arrested after a carjacking in Redfern earlier today.

Officers from Redfern Police Area Command responded to reports a Range Rover was stolen from a car wash on Cleveland St at around 1.30pm on Thursday.

A 61-year-old man was inside the stolen car for a short time, before he was ejected on Cleveland St.

He was not injured during the carjacking.

Police located the Range Rover on Laing Rd and when attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver continued and hit a male senior constable who was standing on the road.

He was not injured.

Police initiated a pursuit near Moore Park but was terminated due to safety concerns.

The vehicle travelled through Centennial Park and Kingsford, before stopping on Maloney St, Eastlakes.

The driver, from Harris Park, was arrested and taken to Redfern Police Station.

He is assisting with inquiries.
