A police operation at a Surry Hills housing estate uncovered drugs, cash and weapons on Tuesday.
Detective Chief Inspector Adam Johnson from Surry Hills Police Area Command said officers seized items including heroin, a samurai sword, a hand made taser and a large quantity of cash.
Det Insp Johnson said six search warrants were executed within the housing area in the vicinity of Belvoir, Devonshire, and Clisdell St at around 9am on Tuesday February 5 and, as a result, four men and one woman have been detained.
He said this is one area in Surry Hills where they do get called out to frequently.
“They are currently assisting us with our inquiries,” Det Insp Johnson said.
“Some of the items seized during the operation include prohibited drugs, heroin cannabis.
“We also seized two replica fire arms, what appears to be a home made taser.
“There was also a significant amount of cash detained.”
Det Insp Johnson said officers also uncovered counterfeit material, including a scanner and fraudulent credit cards.
“We are acting on information from the public and intelligence holdings, that’s why I say if anyone does have any information in relation, please ring us on Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” he said.
“We will continue in that area and make no apologies for that.”
Those arrested include a 42-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, who have each been charged with arrest warrants.
A 40-year-old man has been charged with three counts of having goods in custody suspected of being stolen.
He has been granted conditional bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday February 21.
A 32-year-old Surry Hills man has been charged with supply a prohibited drug (heroin), possess a prohibited drug (three counts), deal with the proceeds of crime.
His bail is being processed now.
Police are also interviewing a 41-year-old man over the possession of prohibited weapons (two replica firearms and a homemade electronic stun device), possession of card-making machine, and possession of counterfeit cards.
