Paola Polla Toscano: Pyrmont car crash death, tributes paid
A community is in mourning following the tragic death of a young woman who has been described as “truly special” after she was killed in a car crash at Pyrmont. She has been remembered by friends and colleagues at the cafe where she worked as a barista.

A community has been heartbroken after a beloved friend, fiance and co-worker was killed in a devastating car crash in Pyrmont on Friday morning.
Paola Polla Toscano, 28, originally from Genova (Genoa), passed away thousands of kilometres from her family in Italy, when she crashed while driving her Volkswagen Golf on the Western Distributor.
Her car hit a barrier, just after midnight on August 14.
She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where she later died in the night.
She worked at the Toco Fresh cafe in Concord, where she was employed as a barista.
The cafe closed for the day following her death and posted a tribute on Instagram.
“Paola, you touched our hearts with your smile. Your positive energy radiated to everyone that had the chance of meeting you,” the message read.
“You are truly special and will be missed by us all. Rest in peace you beautiful soul.”
Under the post, Kylie wrote: “Just spoke to her yesterday ... devastated for her family and friends … my deepest condolences”.
In an earlier post, on August 14, Toco Fresh said: “Sorry we are closed for the remainder of today due to the passing of one of our staff members this morning.”
“Words cannot express how saddened the TOCO team is to hear this news. Our hearts go out to her family”
A cafe patron, from the account Ultimate Flooring Australia, commented: “Rest In Peace beautiful Paola. You made my day every time with your smile and passion for the job. A life lost so early but lived passionately for the short time you we here.”
“Heaven now has new Angel and a wonderful barista.”
