More than 150 food safety and hygiene fines have been dished out to NSW businesses in the last five months, as new figures reveal the hotspot regions for offences.

Outlets of popular food chains including KFC and McDonald’s are among the latest eateries hit with penalty notices for breaching food safety and hygiene standards since November.

A total of 156 fines were issued to 82 separate businesses over the five-month period, including one venue that was hit with 12 separate fines.

The list of businesses published by the NSW Food Authority include sushi restaurants, food stalls, cafes, bakeries and supermarkets.

Common breaches of food safety standards included failing to display potentially hazardous food under temperature control, and failing to take measures to prevent pests in food areas.

Golden Territory Seafood Restaurant at Campsie received the most number or fines for any individual business with 12 infringement notices in two separate inspections in November and January.

This publication contacted the restaurant but the owner declined to comment about the fines.

The list also includes outlets of major fast food chains including KFC Tahmoor, Hungry Jack’s at Tweed Heads South and McDonald’s North Parramatta.

A KFC spokeswoman said: “KFC places the highest priority on food safety and restaurant cleanliness and action has been taken at KFC Tahmoor to ensure our high standards will be met in the future”.

A McDonald’s spokeswoman said the company was working with the North Parramatta restaurant to ensure customers can be confident in its commitment to food safety, quality and customer experience.

“McDonald’s takes food safety, quality and hygiene very seriously. This clearly fell short of the high standards we hold ourselves to and we have addressed this with the restaurant, including additional pest control measures,” she said in a statement. “The restaurant has subsequently passed inspections conducted in February.”
