Dale Robinson chopped off 18-years of hair last week for the World’s Greatest Shave.
The 30-year-old had been growing out his dreadlocks for nine years but admitted he has been trying to grow out his locks for around 18-years.
He said he felt inspired to shave off his dreadlocks after a couple of his friends were diagnosed with blood cancer.
“They have gone through some hard times which hasn’t been easy,” Mr Robinson said.
“My mother also volunteers at hospitals and has told me about kids with leukaemia.
“I had my hair for a long time and I wanted to do something that could help others out, even in such a small way,” he said.
Mr Robinson, who works in the CBD and lives in Jannali, said he felt nervous in the lead-up to the shave, but knew he had made the right choice to help others out.
“I was nervous, worried about having an odd shaped head after that many years growing my hair,” he said.
“But knowing that the money raised could make a lot of people’s lives better eased my mind.”
His hair was shaved off on Wednesday March 13 at Martin Place and he raised around $4000 towards the World’s Greatest Shave charity.
“I was definitely surprised by how much I managed to raise,” he said.
“I originally had my goal at $1000 and it was reached within two days, so I had to increase it a few times to meet with the overwhelming donations.”
