A Sydney busker, known as “Barnsey”, accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl he allegedly lured and plied with booze has been formerly refused bail in court and will remain in custody.

Glenn Ian Morrison, 52, was not required on screen when his matter was briefly mentioned before Central Local Court today.

His matter was mentioned after he was arrested on Thursday following the alleged incident, involving a 13-year-old, at Rosebery on Monday.

Magistrate Robert Williams ordered a brief of evidence be served by the prosecution by October 17, when the matter will return to court.

It will be alleged Morrison met the girl at Manly on August 19 and struck up a conversation before buying her a drink.

It will be alleged he then took her via public transport to a boarding house at Rosebery — about 26km away — where he repeatedly sexually assaulted her.

Police will allege the northern beaches girl escaped from the boarding house the morning after and complained to police after arriving home.

Addressing the media today, NSW Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec said the allegation was “every parents’ worse nightmare”.

“The young child, a 13-year-old, was in a public place at the Manly Wharf and was befriended by an old gentleman and sexually assaulted,” he alleged.

The busker is known around the Circular Quay area and was asked by someone who knew him what he was doing with the girl, police will allege.

“During these movements the man told a member of the public the girl was his daughter,” Det Supt Kerlatec alleged.

Police comments follow Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad detectives arresting Morrison outside the boarding house about 5.20pm on August 22.

Detectives raided a room inside the premises, where several items were seized for examination.

Morrison was taken to Mascot police station and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a person under 16, and four counts of sexual touching of person aged 10 to 16.

He did not apply for bail and it was firmly refused today.
