A man and woman accused of being involved in a dramatic hours-long police chase across Sydney – stretching from Bankstown to North Rocks – have appeared in court.

Captivated TV audiences were given front row seats to the shocking pursuit as the chase was broadcast live US-style across all major channels.

Kasey Glover, 39, of Glenfield and Ashlea Francisco, 37, of Ingleburn, appeared from police custody before magistrates Mark Whelan and Joy Boulos at Burwood Local Court on Friday.

Francisco, represented by lawyer Mahmoud Abbas, did not enter pleas to the six offences including possessing an unregistered firearm in a public place; aggravated break and enter; and stealing.

Francisco did not apply for bail.

Glover did not appear in court or apply for bail, which was formally refused.

His lawyer told the court his client’s Supreme Court bail on an unrelated charge had been revoked.

Glover has been charged with 20 offences related to his arrest on Thursday including possessing an unregistered firearm in a public place; police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously; aggravated break and enter; fraud; and stealing.

Both matters were adjourned to August 9 at Burwood Local Court.

The breathtaking chase began in Bankstown on Thursday morning when a white Hyundai Sonata, that police allege was stolen, was being driven at speed along the M5 and M7 motorways.

The car drove on the wrong side of the road through suburban Parramatta before ultimately slamming into a traffic light on the Hills Motorway at North Rocks about 11am.

NSW Police had pursued the man and woman in the stolen car at several points in the hour before, before deciding the danger to the public was too great and handing the chase duties over to a Polair helicopter.

When the car came to a sudden halt thanks to an immovable traffic light, police were finally able to catch up, and dragged the pair from the car, with the moment broadcast live across the country.

Three unmarked police cars surrounded the car as Francisco, in a white hoodie and black leggings, and the alleged driver, Glover, were arrested.

Francisco quickly got out of the car before being tackled to the ground by officers and led away into a police vehicle and Glover sat handcuffed to a light pole, before the duo were taken to Ryde police station for questioning.

Police had been searching for the pair since early Thursday morning as part of their investigations into several alleged break-and-enters in Sydney’s southwest.

When the wild ride came to a halt, police found a gun, a gel blaster and a large amount of cash in the boot.
