A young man who was caught with 36.8g of MDMA at Sydney Olympic Park has received a ticking off by a magistrate after appearing before court unprepared.
James Hohaia, 20, who lives in Woolloomooloo, was arrested after being charged with possessing and supplying MDMA at Olympic Park on February 8.
He was also found with $100 which police suspected to be the proceeds of crime.
Hohaia, who is on bail, has pleaded guilty to possessing 36.8g of MDMA and not guilty to supplying a prohibited drug and dealing with the property proceeds of crime.
He was self-represented wearing a white shirt and black jeans at Burwood Local Court on Monday.
When magistrate Susan Horan asked him if he contacted legal aid before his mention, he replied “no.”
“Why not? I told you it was serious,” she said.
Yet he said that he had intended to speak to legal aid this morning before his mention.
“I thought I was going to see them this morning but I had the same problem as last time,” he said.
Magistrate Susan Horan told Hohaia to speak to get legal advice and “sort himself out” as she adjourned the matter.
“Do you have a phone?” she said.
“Yes but I don’t have credit,” he replied.
“Sort yourself out,” the magistrate said.
Hohaia will return to court on July 13 for a hearing date to be set.
