Ram Raid: CCTV of moment thieves burgle high-end fashion store Camilla
Detectives have released CCTV footage as they continue their investigation into the ram raid of high-end fashion store Camilla in Sydney’s inner west. The thieves used a stolen vehicle to break into the business to steal large quantities of clothing.
Detectives have released CCTV footage as they continue their investigation into the ram raid of high-end fashion store Camilla at Alexandria.
A NSW Police spokesman said thieves used a stolen vehicle to break into the business to steal large quantities of clothing.
Inner West Police Area Command officers were called for assistance to the business on Bowden St at 5.30am on Sunday, following reports a stolen Ford Mondeo — Police believe may have been stolen during a carjacking moments before— reversed through the glass front doors.
A NSW Police spokesman said a 40-year-old man was threatened with a firearm at around 5.15am on Flora St, Erskineville.
Strike Force Xidil investigators have released vision of two men they believe can assist with their inquiries.
The two men are described as being of solid build and wearing dark clothing.
Two men entered the Camilla store and took a large quantity of clothing before fleeing the scene in their getaway vehicle.
Police believe another vehicle — a red or orange Audi station wagon — was also involved by being used in the burglary.
Police allege it was not the first time designer stores have been a target to thieves.
Kaftan designer Camilla Franks’ Bondi store was burgled in October 2016, and in February 2017 a woman posing as a security guard stole bags of clothing from a warehouse sale in Paddington.
Dresses by Ms Franks, aged 42, can cost buyers anywhere up to $1500 a piece.
The designer was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year, four months after giving birth to daughter Luna.
Ms Franks is also in the process of a legal fight with her parents after a fallout over her designer brand.
Camilla’s CEO, Jane McNally said they are taking “proactive measures to protect our brand, staff and property.”
“We will prosecute offenders and anyone who receives stolen goods,” she said.
“CAMILLA is a sought after global brand and we thank our loyal and supportive customers, clients and friends for their amazing support, now and in the future.
“We are unable to comment any further as this is an ongoing police investigation.”
Following yesterday’s incident, Inner West Police Area Command officers established a crime scene and detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad are investigating.
Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty, encouraged any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
“One of our greatest assets is the community – the information you provide on a daily basis is invaluable in our pursuit to keep you safe,” Det Supt Doherty said.
“Strike Force Xidil detectives are urging online shoppers to be cautious; if you see this style of clothing sold on other websites and believe it may be suspicious, we want to hear from you.”
Investigations continue.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
