More than 80 people required medical attention and almost 100 were charged with drug offences at a New Year’s Day dance festival in Sydney.

A special police operation including undercover cops was in play at the Fuzzy Field Day 2023, which saw more than 27,000 people pack The Domain.

The operation targeted anti-social behaviour, alcohol-related crime, and the supply of illegal drugs inside and outside the venue.

Police detected 97 people in possession of illicit drugs, including MDMA, amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, ketamine and psilocybin (mushrooms).

Three face drug supply charges, all relating to MDMA.

Police will allege in court that a 21-year-old man was in possession of 15 capsules of MDMA, another 21-year-old man had nine capsules, and a 25-year-old woman had five capsules.

They have been granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court.

In total, police issued 15 court attendance notices, two infringement notices, 13 cannabis cautions and 58 criminal infringement notices.

During the festival, 84 people received medical treatment by Ambulance paramedics, with three taken to hospital.

Field Day is Sydney’s longest running music festival, and this year featured Diplo, Kaytranada, Denzel Curry, Dom Dolla, BICEP, BENEE and Patrick Topping.

In 2018, more than 160 people were arrested and charged with drug possession at the long-running over-18s event.

In 2017, a staggering 204 people were arrested at the event for around 215 drug-related offences.
