A drink driver crashed into a car and had a “scuffle” with its passenger at Chippendale before spitting on a police officer.

Cooper Cameron Black, of Newtown, faced Downing Centre Local Court on Friday after pleading guilty to assaulting a police officer without causing actual bodily harm, resisting police, high range drink driving and refusing to submit to a breath test.

The 26-year-old was sentenced to a 12-month conditional release order, disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined $500 and ordered to receive psychological treatment.

A conviction was recorded for the drink driving and failing to submit to a breath test charges.

Court documents state Black was driving along Central Park Ave, Chippendale about 11.30pm on November 10 when she swerved and crashed into the back of a car.

The driver of the impacted vehicle had overtaken Black shortly before the crash because of the way the offender was driving, documents continue.

Black became aggressive when both cars had pulled over and tried to punch the driver’s boyfriend. The pair had a “scuffle” and ended up on the ground, police facts state.

Black was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station where she spat on the back of an officer’s head. She then tried to stab another cop with one of her piercings when she was asked to remove them.

The offender returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.175, which is more than three times the legal limit.

During sentencing, Black’s lawyer Isabelle Jones-Rabbitt said her client was remorseful and she was focusing on mentally getting better.

There were good prospects of rehabilitation and Black had no criminal history, Ms Jones-Rabbitt said.

Magistrate Karen Stafford said Black’s “erratic” and “dangerous” driving caused the crash and the roads were not safe for the community that night.

Ms Stafford said Black had been suffering from a mental health impairment when she offended, which influenced her behaviour and therefore reduced her ability to make sound decisions.

The court heard Black continued to receive therapy, was genuinely sorry for offending and no longer owned a car.
