Police were called to Redfern Oval after reports of a brawl between a group of teenage girls.
Officers stood guard at a Redfern Oval exit after blocking Chalmers St in Sydney’s central this afternoon.
A large crowd was in the area with the Souths Juniors grand finals being played at the oval.
Seven police cars from South Sydney Police Area Command along with neighbouring commands and specialist units pulled up at the scene on Sunday about 3pm.
“It’s believed a group of teenage girls who had been watching a football game at the nearby oval were involved in a fight outside the stadium,” police state.
“Police have been told a large crowd then left the stadium and were involved in a brawl after becoming aware of the earlier incident.
“The crowd was dispersed and inquiries into the incident are underway.”
Police also entered the venue and gave chase on foot to a man behind the grandstand of the oval.
Police state no one required medical treatment at the scene however officers have been told one of the teenagers presented at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with a cut to her head about 5.30pm.
A witness said a there was allegedly a confrontation at a game on the oval between grand final viewers.
“Just a few scraps between spectators,” they said.
NSW Ambulance were on standby and officers have confirmed no arrests were made.
In an unrelated incident, there was a wild all-in brawl at the conclusion of the reserve grade fixture between Alexandria and Redfern.
Police investigations will continue.
