A high-flying silk enlisted for some of Sydney’s most high profile criminal cases has consented without admissions to an apprehended violence order imposed by police for a woman’s protection.

Ertunç Özen was listed as the respondent in an apprehended violence order sought by police on a woman’s behalf at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday.

He has not been charged with a criminal offence and The Daily Telegraph does not suggest that he has.

Mr Özen was not required to appear in person and he was instead represented by high profile criminal solicitor Mahmoud Abbas.

Mr Abbas told Magistrate Megan Greenwood that Mr Özen consented to the order without any admissions.

“I’m satisfied an order is appropriate by consent without any admissions,” Ms Greenwood said.

For the next two years only the standard orders apply to Mr Özen, which are not to stalk, harass, intimidate or assault the woman, or any person she has a domestic relationship with or any animals she owns.

The standard orders also prohibit any destruction or damage of the protected person’s property.

The order will be in place for two years.

Outside court, Mr Abbas made a brief statement on the prominent silk’s behalf.

“Mr Özen vehemently denies any criminal conduct,” Mr Abbas told the Telegraph.

“He consents to the order without any admissions to deal with it expeditiously, and wishes to move on.”

Mr Özen is a highly sought after silk in Sydney’s criminal law scene and has been involved in many prominent cases – including that of his own representative, Mr Abbas.

The silk represented Mr Abbas in the NSW Supreme Court in his efforts to have a phone and laptop containing privileged client information returned to him after Mr Abbas was shot outside his southwest Sydney home in harrowing circumstances last July.
Police continue to hunt those responsible for shooting Mr Abbas in the torso and leg as he got into his car.

In recent months, Mr Özen has also represented Danny Zayat – a man charged with murdering his girlfriend Tatiana Dokhotaru at a Liverpool apartment – and Ahmed Haouchar, who is accused of conspiring to import 100kg of cocaine.

He also represented Jason Mansor – one of several men charged over his alleged involvement with the execution of bikie drug lord Alen Moradian in his Bondi Junction apartment’s underground car park.

Mr Özen also represented Johnson Kokozian, a young driver accused of killing siblings Alina and Ernesto Kauffman in a horrific crash in Sydney’s southwest.

The cases of all four men remain before the courts.
