A group of mates whose quiet night out turned into a wild and violent brawl on a Sydney street have been warned they face jail over the bloody melee.
The birthday celebrations in late 2019 left two of the group, one a promising MMA fighter, knocked unconscious with police lathering them in pepper spray to quell the violence.
So chaotic was the scene on Bourke St that one of the men accidentally had his head stomped on by a friend who tried to assist, a court has heard.
Joseph Czuper, his sister Anita, Jake and Dylan Taylor and Mila brothers Paul and Salani all fronted Downing Centre Local Court on Monday where details of their drunken affray were laid bare.
All had pleaded guilty to a range of offences including assault police, common assault and affray.
The brawl occurred after mixed martial arts prospect Salani Mila was knocked out after chasing another man across the street, the court was told.
The group had been drinking at the Beresford Hotel before exchanging words with the other group of mates on the street.
From there the chaos ensued with the rest of the group getting involved and throwing punches.
The court heard when Salani was knocked out cold his brother Paul began chasing his attacker, punching him in the face, throwing him and then kicking the man in the head while he laid on the floor.
The group had all grown up together and were out celebrating a birthday, other than Jake Taylor who arrived on the scene in an Uber.
Magistrate Alexander Mijovich said the violent encounter may not have played out if Salani Mila had not pursued the man across the street.
He avoided a conviction and was handed an 18 month community release order after the court was told of his work with vulnerable youths and his good character.
Magistrate Mijovich said it was lucky he was knocked out as it likely stopped him from throwing punches.
Joseph Czuper, who joined in was also left unconscious, found himself throwing punches and re joining the brawl after initially walking away.
He was handed an 18-month community corrections order.
His sister Anita began engaging in a fight with another woman where the court heard there was “hair pulling and wrestling” right in front of police.
When those officers began attending to her brother she swung her jacket at one and hit him in the head, the court was told.
She along with Dylan Taylor, Jake Taylor, and Paul Mila will be sentenced at the same court next month after Magistrate Mijovich warned their actions had crossed the threshold for a jail sentence.
