Two of Sydney’s premier venues – the Capitol and Lyric Theatres – which have played host to star-studded musicals, theatre and ballet, were allegedly repeatedly robbed across a 13-month period by a 55-year-old man on the company payroll.
Andrew Svenson, of Rhodes, is accused of pocketing sums of cash between $50 and $7200 from Foundation Theatres, the owners of the iconic theatres, between January 2018 and February last year.
Police say, on 26 occasions, Svenson stole cash from his employer.
Police also allege the man used forged emails with fake information about his business to get $50,000 transferred into his bank account from a 31-year-old man between May and July last year.

He has been charged with 26 counts of stealing property from employer and three fraud-related offences.
Wearing a black suit and blue tie, the 55-year-old man fronted Downing Centre Local Court for the first time on Wednesday.
Svenson told deputy registrar Nicole Hoffman he had spoken to the duty solicitor who advised him to ask for an adjournment to get legal advice, which was granted.
No pleas were entered to any of the 29 charges.
The matter will return to Downing Centre Local Court later this month.
