A man entered the store armed with a shortened firearm and threatened the men, demanding money.
The contents of three cash registers were handed over to the man, along with a quantity of cigarettes.
The man left the premises on a motorcycle making good his escape.
Lake Macquarie police were called and established a crime scene.
Investigators believe a man described as wearing a helmet, long sleeved black hoodie, dark long pants, and black gloves may be able to assist with their inquiries into the matter.
